Sexual Orientation
Sexual orientation refers to the enduring pattern of emotional, romantic and/or sexual attraction toward individuals of a particular gender or multiple genders. It is diverse and exists along a spectrum rather than fixed categories.
Varieties of Sexual Orientation -
1. Heterosexual
- Attraction to individuals of the opposite sex.
- Most common orientation globally, often emphasized in traditional socio-cultural contexts.
2. Homosexual
- Attraction to individuals of the same sex.
- Includes gay (men attracted to men) and lesbian (women attracted to women).
3. Bisexual
- Attraction to both men and women.
- Emotional and sexual preference may vary in intensity across time or context.
4. Pansexual
- Attraction regardless of gender identity or biological sex.
- Focuses on emotional connection rather than gender categories.
5. Asexual
- Little or no sexual attraction to others.
- May still experience romantic or emotional attraction (sometimes called *aromantic* if absent).
6. Queer/Fluid
- Non-conforming or flexible orientation that does not fit neatly into fixed categories.
- Emphasizes individuality and evolving attraction patterns.
7. Other Variants
- Demisexual: Attraction only after forming strong emotional bonds.
- Polysexual: Attraction to multiple genders, but not necessarily all.
- Omnisexual: Similar to pansexual, but acknowledges gender as part of attraction.
