THE THIRD YEAR OF THE BHMS PROGRAM DEEPENS THE STUDENT’S KNOWLEDGE IN CLINICAL AND PARA-CLINICAL SUBJECTS, FOCUSING ON SURGICAL PRINCIPLES, COMMUNITY HEALTH, PHARMACOLOGY, AND OBSTETRICS & GYNAECOLOGY. IT BUILDS STRONGER CLINICAL SKILLS, DIAGNOSTIC ABILITY, AND INTEGRATION OF HOMEOPATHIC PRINCIPLES THROUGH MATERIA MEDICA, ORGANON, AND REPERTORY.
Duration:
The third year continues the five-and-a-half-year BHMS course, forming the advanced phase of clinical training. It usually consists of two academic terms with theory and practical examinations at the end of each term.
Basic Structure:
The third year focuses on exposure to clinical subjects such as Surgery, ENT, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Pharmacology, and Community Medicine, while continuing deeper study of homeopathic subjects. Students develop case-taking skills, differential diagnosis, and application of homeopathic therapeutics alongside understanding conventional medical approaches.
Subjects Overview:
Surgery:
Study of surgical principles, wound healing, inflammation, ulcers, tumors, fractures, dislocations, and common surgical conditions. Includes first aid, minor surgical procedures, and pre- and post-operative care.
ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat):
Covers diseases of the ear, nose, throat, larynx, and related structures. Focus on diagnosis of common ENT disorders, examinations, and basic management.
Ophthalmology:
Study of basic eye anatomy, common eye diseases (conjunctivitis, cataract, glaucoma, refractive errors), eye injuries, and infections, with focus on vision testing and early diagnosis.
Dentistry:
Covers tooth structure, dental caries, gum diseases, oral infections, jaw problems, and dental hygiene, with emphasis on oral lesion identification and oral health education
Obstetrics & Gynaecology (OBG):
Study of pregnancy, labour, puerperium, menstrual disorders, reproductive health, gynaecological diseases, and antenatal/postnatal care. Includes normal and abnormal deliveries.
Pharmacology:
Understanding of drug actions, classifications, side effects, interactions, and rational use of medicines. Helps correlate allopathic pharmacology with homeopathic therapeutics.
Community Medicine:
Study of public health, epidemiology, prevention of diseases, national health programs, sanitation, immunization, and health education. Emphasizes community-level healthcare.
Materia Medica:
Advanced study of homeopathic remedies with detailed symptomatology, remedy differentiation, relationships, and therapeutic applications.
Organon of Medicine:
Further development of homeopathic philosophy, laws of cure, chronic diseases, miasms, and refined case-taking with emphasis on clinical application.
Repertory:
Introduction to repertorization, structure of different repertories, rubrics, and practical use of repertory in case analysis and remedy selection.
Practical Training:
Includes clinical postings in Surgery, ENT, and OBG; community visits; pharmacological demonstrations; and case-based learning in Materia Medica, Organon, and Repertory. Students observe OPD/IPD cases and perform clinical examinations.
Assessment:
Evaluation through written exams, viva-voce, practicals, clinical examinations, case presentations, and internal assessments throughout the academic year.
